Q. What do I do once I get my Deed Poll?
A. You need to sign your Deed Poll, once for your old name, and once for your new name. You need to date your
Deed Poll on the last paragraph, and have your signature witnessed by someone over the age of 18.
Q. Does a solicitor need to witness my signature?
A. The witness can be anyone over the age of 18 who is not a relative of you.
Q. Are your Deed Polls accepted by the Passport agency?
A. Our Deed Polls are accepted by the Passport Office and have been used successfully with them.
Q. Can I get certified copies of my Deed Poll from you?
A. To get certified copies of your Deed Poll, you need to send the signed Deed Poll back to us and we will copy it for you.
However, we have found that if you get the original person who witnessed your Deed Poll to sign This is a true copy of the original put before me with their name and address on the back of a copy then most organisations are happy to accept it.
Q. Can I just order multiple copies of the Deed Poll, or print multiple copies of my Email Deed Poll and have them all signed and witnessed?
Yes, you can print multiple copies of your Email Deed Poll and have them all signed and witnessed. You can order multiple copies of a postal Deed Poll by selecting the number you require on the order confirmation page.
Q. Can I change the name on my birth certificate?
A. No, you cannot change the name on your Birth certificate.
Q. Can I have Lord or Sir as my first name?
A. Yes, you can change your name to anything you wish, as long as it is not for fraudulent or criminal means.
Q. Are there any additional costs?
A. The only additional costs are for getting a passport and/or driving license reissued in your new name and those costs incurred in informing people of your name change (stamps and envelope costs, etc.).
Q. Will my passport make any reference to my old name?
A. No, you will receive a brand new passport, with no reference to your old name.
Q. What is the difference between a Postal Deed Poll and an Email one?
A. The wording and the layout of the Deed Polls are the same. The Postal Deed Poll is printed by us and then checked and stamped by our Legal Office. You need to print the Email Deed Poll yourself. We recommend printing your Deed Poll on good quality laid cream paper available from good stationers.
Q. If I have printed the Deed Poll myself, is it legal?
A. Yes, once you have signed, dated and had your Deed Poll witnessed, it becomes a legal document, even if you have printed it out yourself. |
